About me
Martin specialises in corporate restructuring and insolvency, as an insolvency practitioner in the Cayman Islands and qualified accountant with over 30 years’ experience. He is a director of the firm’s liquidation and restructuring companies, R&H Restructuring (Cayman) Ltd. and R&H Restructuring (BVI) Ltd., both of which are affiliates of Rawlinson & Hunter in the Cayman Islands, of which Martin is a partner. Martin is co-chair of NAFER’s international committee.
He has broad experience in leading complex administrations, liquidations and receiverships across a number of industry sectors. He has significant cross border experience having worked with corporates in the UK, US, Cayman Islands, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, the Middle East, Ireland, British Channel Islands, the Far East and continental Europe.
Martin has led several insolvency appointments across a number of sectors including financial services, infrastructure and real estate – recent highlights include:
• Receivership appointments in cross-border asset disputes and in support of judgment enforcement;
• Liquidator of Platinum Partners Value Arbitrage, a large hedge fund collapse with worldwide assets and substantial litigation;
• Liquidator of HQP Corporation, a Chinese car parts trading platform, involving cross-border asset tracing and a substantial investigation into a fraud on the company;
• Liquidator of Al Masah Capital and Unisol, both with assets and operations in the Middle East;
• Liquidator of Madison Asset, a large Pan-American investment fund involving forensic investigation, asset tracing and litigation recoveries;
• Liquidator and provisional liquidator on a number of solvent and insolvent wind-downs of Cayman, Bermuda and BVI companies;
• Acting as Provisional Liquidator in relation to a number of entities seeking recognition and assistance in Hong Kong as part of a wider restructuring strategy; and
• Director to several Cayman funds in distress, providing restructuring advice and/or conducting litigation support.
Martin is a fellow member of both the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Association of Business Recovery Professionals and a member of RISA, the Cayman chapter of INSOL, acting as treasurer on its board of directors. In addition, he is a member of the Cayman Islands’ Insolvency Rules Committee and a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute. He spent 12 months seconded to the work out and recoveries team of a major UK clearing bank.
