About me
Jonathan Ware is an Attorney Advisor to Commissioner Mark Meador of the Federal Trade Commission. He advises the Commissioner on all consumer protection matters.
In his seven years as a trial attorney with the FTC, Jonathan investigated and litigated cases in federal courts across the country involving deceptive and unfair practices. He played a lead role on significant matters, including last year’s Amazon Prime jury trial and $2.5 billion settlement, investigation of TikTok for child privacy violations, 2024 revisions to the Negative Option Rule, and this year’s Made in USA sweep. Prior to that, he co-chaired a successful 12-day bench trial in a dual contempt and pyramid scheme case with a receiver. Jonathan is a member of the FTC’s Litigation Committee, an in-house resource on receivership issues, and on the agency’s USAi pilot program for AI services. Jonathan received awards from the FTC in 2020, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026 for his work.
Before joining the FTC, Jonathan served as receiver (and NAFER member) and counsel to receiver in winding up the 11-year, $500 million Wextrust Receivership. He had a wide-ranging white collar defense practice at two international law firms. He advised the monitor in a DOJ monitorship (uncovering issues that led to a $125 million forfeiture), helped successfully defend Mark Cuban against the SEC’s insider trading allegations, and carried out compliance, investigative, and litigation work on-the-ground in 29 countries and 21 states. He also led his firm’s award-winning US pro bono practice. Jonathan has a J.D. and B.A. from the University of Virginia.
